Functions of Department
General Administration
a)To deal with the matter pertaining to appointment, promotion, increment, Leave application of the officers and Staff of the Department and Ad-hoc/Muster Roll employees deployed at various places of Religious important, within the State of Sikkim.
b)To look after the matter pertaining to No Objection Certificate for registration of the Management Committee of Religious Institutions or registration of the donated/purchased plot of land in the name of Religious Institutions within the State of Sikkim.
c)(i) To deal with the matter pertaining to issue of permission to collect donation as to raise fund for the construction of Religious Institutions.
(ii)To issue permission for Video Shooting of the interior of the monasteries for the purpose of documentation, within the State of Sikkim.
d)To deal with the matter pertaining to Grants in aid for the demand of repair/renovation/restoration and new construction of Religious Institutions placed before the Government by the DUCHI/ management Committee of the respective religious Institutions of Sikkim.
e)To deal with the matter pertaining to annual subsidy Grants of recognized monasteries & Dhuetor Grants of the Six major monasteries and checking & certification of the detailed accounts submitted in the register provided by the Department.
f)To deal with the matter pertaining to Puja Grants given to the monasteries for performance of major ceremonies/ religious festivals of the Gonpas and for the performance of ‘Tenchi Puja’/’Sarvajanik Puja’ at designated Monastery or Mandir.
g)To deal with the matter pertaining to Sikkim’s religious centres at Darjeeling, Bodhgaya and Sarnath.
h)To look after the matter for protection and preservation of Sacred Hot Springs, Caves, Holy Lakes and places of pilgrimage in Sikkim.
i)To deal with the matter pertaining to office protocol, maintenance of Office and supply of stationary items/Furniture etc. for office use.
j)To issue of license to the Pastor or the Christian Priests to conduct Christian Marriage solemnization ceremony in the State of Sikkim as per the terms of the Christian Marriage Act of 1872.
k)(i)To conduct time to time spot inspection of the sanctioned Schemes and physical verification of the reported incidents of any nature within the compound of religious Institutions.
(ii)To verify the land proposed for registration in the name of Religious Institutions to ensure that it does not fall within the public places/Road reserved/forest area.
l) To deal with the matter pertaining to legal issues of the land and the religious properties of any recognized Religious Institutions of the State including Ecclesiastical’s land issues out side Sikkim.
m)To deal with the matter pertaining to Project Works being implemented within the compound of Religious Institutions by other Government Department or NGOs/Foreign Agency.
